Must have Magazine!

Today spent the day with my sister at Barnes & Noble. As always I was drawn to the magazine section; I could spend hours just reading magazine after magazine. I enjoy keeping up with celebrity gossip, reading beauty advice, and soaking in and appreciating the current and upcoming trends.
Instyle, Cosmo, Marie Claire, Harpers Bazaar, Allure, Glamour, Elle, W, Fashion, NYLON, and my personal fave, of course: VOGUE! British Vogue, Italian Vogue, Paris, French and German Vogue, American Vogue..I love it, the list goes on and on, they have it all! (You can understand why I could spend all day there now).
Anyways when I was skimming through I found a book that every fashionista out there would appreciate and absolutely Adore. VOGUE COLLECTIONS Spring-Summer 2010. It's pretty much amazing. Every single designer and their entire spring summer 2010 collection is showcased in this magazine/book. Page after page of endless fashions from Ready to Wear to Couture; Beauty on every page.
Trust me, this is a purchase you will NOT regret. You wont even be able to put it down. It's so fascinating to see the inspirations behind each peice of clothing. It's definieltly an investment, priced at $43.16 but if you're fashionista like me, it will be worth it. It was the best investment I've made in a while. If you're a Barnes & Noble member it's only $38.84...just check out the site (posted underneath the picture) if you want to take a sneak peek inside and see for yourself. ENJOY!

Life

Life. One little word with so many meanings. What does life mean to you? Is it something to waste away on fun and games, or is it a journey of finding yourself, your passion, the meaning of life itself?

The average person only lives to be 100, giving us up to 100 years to figure out what life means to us. I believe that life, as we know it is something so precious, so meaningful and oh so fragile. It can be taken away from us at any moment, so I ask you, what do you do to make it worth while? Do you help others? Do you take time to yourself to find your passion? Do you take the time to love yourself, and to share that love with those around you?

Life, to me, is love, happiness, drive, courage, fear; it's a constant feeling you get at any given moment in time. That's what I call life, it's not an obstacle, it's a journey!
Life is what you make it. If you love and follow your passion, your life will be full of love and opportunities will constantly show up to enable you to follow your dreams. If you believe in happiness, your life will be full of it. BUT one thing you have to keep in mind is, if it works with happiness and love, it will work with laziness, fear, and anger.

If you project fear into your thoughts, and keep yourself back from trying new things, and if you loose the drive to follow your dreams then that is what life will bring to you! You have to THINK in order to BE. Remember that!

LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT. WHAT YOU WANT IT TO BE.
You are the controller of your life, and your mind, believe it or not, is the most powerful thing in the world. Use it wisely, and keep it healthy and full of LOVE, HAPPINESS, PASSION, COURAGE....LIFE.

10 Best Things About Working in Fashion

I thought I'd share what I learned, and thought was so fun, today in my Human Resource class. The 10 best things about working in Fashion. Enjoy!

1. Shopping, shopping, and more SHOPPING! Who wouldn't love to e getting paid to shop all the time, at the best stores, all over NYC, the country, and the world? Not to meantion, when you get done using all the shopping goodies, they often end up in your closet. <3>

2. Living in NYC! Arguably THE BEST city in the world, and fashion's playground. Living here is a unique and inspiring experience. no matter how exhausting of a week you've had, the pulse of this amazing city will keep you going. Incredible place to live and breathe.

3. Getting to express your passion for fashion. No matter what department or category of business you work in, if you work in the fashion industry you will live, eat, sleep, and basically breathe fashion.

4. It just sounds cool! A random little perk to working int he business is the enjoyment you get whenever someone asks you what you do for a living. Whether you are a pattern maker, graphic designer, buyer, designer, visual, or whatever, saying that you work in fashion is just plain cool. I noticed that others around you are concious of what they wear and will go to you for advice!

5. Seeing people wearing your product is always a thrill. It will often catch you off guard, like the person in from o fyou in the grocery store, wearing a jacket you produced, or a cute little miniskirt you designed a year ago and forgot about. Even when you spot someone wearing a dress from the store you own, or manage. It's a boost to the self esteem :)

6. Getting to travel the world on the company's dime! Who wouldnt love that? Whether it's shop trips to Europe or factory trips to Asia, fashion offers once in a lifetime travel experiences.

7. Money, yes we said money. We often complain about being underpaid but, it is possible to make a decent living in the fashion industry. While you will most likely never get rich, you are getting paid to do what you love, and compared to the alternative (working in retail or fashion media) the pay can be very rewarding.

8. Working in a profession that values and caters your innate creativity is a rare treat. While the fashion industry is certainly a business, creativity is rewarded, and in a successful workplace it is fostered.

9. We are all affecting the consumer market. No matter how large or small your company, we all have a national if not global impact on the economy. In some way, what you are working on today will impact the manufacturing and retail marketplace tomorrow.

10. The people. Over the years we have all worked with many cowaorkers who share out passions and have also had the privilege to learn from many talented industry veterans (divas and crazy beotches aside). Not to mention, the entertainment value in meeting models and celebrities alike, it's all the people who make this industry what it is, and that includes all of you!

Play Date with the Statement necklace

The accessories you wear can make an outfit. I've been loving the huge, bulky, statment necklaces that are all the rage right now. Jessica Szohr rocked one out on Gossip Girl, and I just so happen to have one just like it from Forever 21 for only $19.80. AMAZING!! I found some other cute ones that are cheap too. Just dont be afraid to wear them-even with a plain T-shirt, the necklace has enough power to take the tee from plain, to fabulous. Theses necklaces pack a punch, and paired with a sexy, fitted blazer, it's great for the office AND a night out with the girls. :)

Look how sexy she is! The necklace makes the entire outfit <3
This black and red, jeweled necklace is at Forever 21 for $17.80. Very chic with a slight rocker feel to it, i ADORE it!

Found this one, with more of a country girl feel for only $8.50 at Pac Sun. I would wear it with black acid wash jeans and a black cashmere, v neck sweater for the daytime, to give it more of a punk look. Wear it with the classic little black dress and some fab shoes. AHH I LOVE IT

Starting off Right

Okay, so I'm going to be honest: This is my first blogging experience-except for one I had to start for my journalism class last year in college but we only used it one. I'm currently obsessing over the thigh hight/knee high boots that are all the rage this season and I will share some outfits I've put together with them. I am so fortunate to work at Forever 21 where they let me express my style and play with fashion for my job. I work as a visual/accessories specialist and get to see all the trends as they come and let me tell you, its so exciting!
I think fashion should be fun, and no one should ever be afraid to express themselves with their clothes. To be a fashionista you have to show confidence in what you wear and become a trend setter in your own mind. Exude confidence and you will be able to pull anything off. As long as you are comfortable with what you wear, GO FOR IT!! Be yourself and make fashion something that's fun, not painful. Mix and match different fabrics, and layer tops that are already in your closet and you will be suprised with how many fabulous outfits you can come up with.
My favorite fashionistas? Stacy London, kim kardashion, Lauren Conrad, Sienna Miller, Victoria Beckham, Nicole Richie..ahhh I LOVE them.
